GPS receiver - need to hook up to a computer before using it.

The receiver is so-so but the real downside to this is the software as I've heard they have a lot of problems with the accuracy of the maps. Also, there is no Text-To-Speech function.

Last time I checked (a few years back) many airlines allowed the use of GPS devices. So, if you get a window seat, and don't mind looking like a tool, and you're willing to try to explain to the attendant what this is, and are willing to put it away if asked, you can stick this puppy to the window and have fun for hours identifying landmarks as they pass by 35,000 feet below.

What is the saying -- A moron in a world of world of morons is not a moron? This site is living proof.
On a plane you can track your route, see air speed, altitude and direction. I bought the Europe maps and tracked my flight to Barcelona. A small percentage of flight attendants are anal/retentive and and may think you are planning to blow out the window with the GPS receiver. One attendant told me it was an illegal device, although I don't think she had a clue to what GPS is.

#3 No - you'd need processing power from an actual CPU, not just display capabilities.

I actually used to work for the company that supplies this GPS reciever for the S&T program (Pharos GPS) The reciever is very good and well structured, make sure to keep it out of the heat( even though they are temp. tested) and also put away when you done, don't leave it out (easy to snatch it up). This is also a good price, from Pharos, they would charge about 79.99--89.99 just for the reciever and USB cable...
