I got these for three preschool kids and they work well. They have a speaker on top that produces a clear sound. There is no display and you can only navigate forward and backward though the song list. I would recommend that you don't put too many songs on it, which shouldn't be a problem for kids since they can listen to one song all day and not get bored with it. (That's when the parents wish it didn't have a speaker)

The one that sold for $12 a fews weeks ago was the 512mb version, and was blue. In addition the speaker, it also has two headphone jacks.
