LOL Who in their right mind would buy a 16MB hard drive?

The best deals seem to be on the 500's right now. Ben has listed a couple in the $70's (plus shipping), and Fry's currently has the Maxtor L01F500 500GB Serial ATA/300 16MB for $80 (plus shipping).

#1 Did you mean, "who in their right mind" would buy a 250 GB for $60?

Just retired my oldest computer. It had 2 4GB hard drives. Trsansferred everything to a single thumb drive but USB on computer is version 0

    I remember paying $750 for the first 1" 1GB 5400rpm drive (ST31200N -- 1.25GB, 1.05GiB formatted) in 1993. And that was a deal! I mean, it was $1/MB back then.

As far as this, this is the single platter 250GB of the prior 7200.10 series. There are 320GB of the new 7200.11 drives out (although I think the lower capacity 7200.11 drives only have 16MB, not 32MB), although firmware issues are not so uncommon (at least with the 32MB versions).

Other single platter 320GB options exists as well. But in reality, double platter 640GB options are a better deal, and the older, double platter 500GB drives have come down in price as well.

i sure hope c00b knew that the 16MB referred to the cache, and not the size of the hard drive ...

    300/320 GB drives are normally $50 - $60.
