I believe this is the same drive without the rebate hassle at frys.com http://shop4.frys.com/product/5479679?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

The fact that HTPC which can smoothly play Blu-Ray with this drive requires quite good hardwares is too sad for me. I built additional computer with unused parts (but with good sound card) as HTPC in order to play Divx and DVD, but its perfomance is not good enough to play Blu-Ray.

#2 All you need is a resonable GPU (like ATI 3450 based which is about 50$ now days) to get more out of your HTPC with this drive.

#7, thanks for the tip. What about CPU and ram?
The CPU of my shitty HTPC is 1.7GHz celeron, and the ram is only 512mb. I haven't had a problem in playing DivX and DVD surely.

#7 that cpu wont be fast enough unfortuantely. the decryption process is very cpu intensive if you play it directly off the disc and graphics card doesnt help here, it just does the decode of the video. if you rip the disc to the drive first and have a graphics card that offloads the decode completely(like the ati card suggested above) then cpu requirements drop. geforce 8500/8600 also offloads hd playback.
