That's because it shut down.

This is a very good price for a high quality 600watt power supply. This is the improved design of the OCZ StealthXStream 600watt power supply, so it does not have the ripple problems that FSP-made OCZ power supplies had in the past(before the start of this year).

In fact, this power supply is based on components that can actually handle a good bit more than the 600watts it is rated for. In the review of this PSU at Hardware Secrets, they were able to pull about 730watts before over power protection shut the power supply down(safely), and do it while keeping the output power in ATX specs. This shows that they aren't trying to push the platform right to its limits.

If you need a good power supply at a reasonable price, this is an excellent choice. 600watts is enough power to handle pretty much any single graphics card computer(even a 9800GX2), and most SLI or Crossfire setups. For $40 this is a real bargain.

So they did fix the ripple problems. It's neat they finally conducted some decent tests on these considering these line of OCZ PSUs were pretty much an unknown. Did they have the same tests for the GameXtreme series?

well, there were certainly some good reviews out of the FSP-made OCZ power supplies(Jonnyguru.com and hardocp.com), however, those reviews showed the power supplies having excessive ripple.

The Hardware Secrets review is the only one that I've been able to find that is after the date OCZ claimed to have redesigned their power supplies.

well, their gameXStream series and StealthXStream series are almost identical inside. As noted in the review of the StealthXStream 600watt PSU, the circuit board said GameXStream 700 on it. Now, it's not quite the same electronically, they used smaller components since it's a 600watt power supply, but other than that, it is the same design.

According to the OCZ rep(who was posting on these forums a couple months ago), OCZ didn't know that the power supplies that they were selling had the ripple problems. FSP shipped them sample units before mass production that worked fine, and did not have ripple problems. Once OCZ found out, they told FSP to fix the problem. Now, I remember reading a press release from FSP around the time the OCZ rep claimed that this was happening, so that backs up his story. So, around december of last year, FSP's new design, which did not have ripple exceeding ATX specs, replaced the old design. Also, the FSP-made 1010watt model was removed from OCZ's lineup, since, according to tests at hardocp.com, it was unable to deliver more than around 85% of its rated wattage.

I have still seen some of the GameXStream 1010watt models on sale, and those are to be avoided, but other than that, the GameXStream and StealthXStream power supplies are good, and have been on sale for some great prices here.
