No Truelife - does it matter, though ?

Sorry to say but this is mediocre at best. It has been essentially this price with no major changes for a long time. The last really good deal on these Vostros that I remember seeing was the $500 off $1249 code [Exp 2/27] back in February.
I didn’t have the money then but I do now. So if Dell doesn’t gets their act together and puts out a good coupon code before June 18 I will be skipping the 1400 and getting a MSI Wind.

XP is going away June 18.
If you want the Truelife, or glossy screen, just select it.

the Wind is like the Asus Eee PC but way better and cooler
this is an article over at DailyTech:
http://www.dailytech.com/MSI+Launches+10+Wind+Netbook+at+399+499/article11962.htm
The Wind should be in stores by the end of the month
---
Back in Feb i could of gotten the 8400gs, C2D t7500, 2 gigs, 7200rpm 160 gig, better screen, blue tooth, cam, xp pro, and a extra 9-cell battery (which they don't offer anymore) for under $900.
So that is my beef. Now that i got the cash the deal is not anywhere as good.

Truelife:
If your lappy lives indoors 90% of the time then truelife you will love much more than the traditional screen because it looks way better.
But, if you like going outside to work and play a lot say in the park during daytime then don't get truelife it will just piss you off.
Hope that helps.

Dell not a true laptop? Whatever. This deal is mediocre at best. I can recall 3 seperate deals on Vostro 1000 and 1500 that both had CD2 and better if not the same specs and they were $399. All those sold out in a couple hours... I got two however. Mediocre deal.

This isn't the best deal ever by Dell, but it's not a bad price for the laptop. #8 you could have gotten that $900 laptop which is faster and better, etc etc, but for what probably 80-90% of people use laptops for, this laptop will be plenty. Obviously if you're gaming (and I still don't understand gaming on a laptop... just me I guess) you could do with a more expensive model, but this is a good laptop for most people.

#14 - Dell not a true laptop? I have a Dell 640m that I purchased over two years ago for $450. In the meantime, I know of three people who have purchased decked out Lenovo T61s less than 10 months ago for $1,500.
My Dell still works great, never dies, and it is used at least 8 hours a day while being transported between classes every day. All three Lenovos have been back to the manufacturer at least once each, and to this day shutdown unexpectedly, refuse to restart from sleep mode, and have other problems that severely limit productivity.
I'm not saying that Lenovos are still the notebook gold standard, but most people would certainly consider them better than average. Since the dell computers I know of have been much more reliable, dollar for dollar, it is hard to find a better notebook than a dell. Just my two cents.

I am equally prejudiced against Dell, Levnovo, Asus, HP, Toshiba, Acer, MSI, and most of all, myself. All in equal proportions.
