Do not buy refurbished unit from Phillips.
I bought a DVP3960/37, the moment it arrived, there is no batteries, DVD is not working. And...
I ordered a DVD player on line, it shipped to me on Apr 23 2008 under order # 0900206886.

The moment receiving the DVD player, I notice that it was missing batteries, the package is very unprofessional. Specially when I try the DVD, it is not working at all. The "No DICS" displays evrytime after a hard spin of the motor.

I called tech. support nextday to get advise case # 6DQX8. The ref. advised me to have the unit turned on for 2 hours, then it will play. So far it is still not working.

I called tech. support again under case 6DX9N to get the RMA. The FT refused to give me the RMA, she indicated that my unit Serial Number : KX2B0738742602 is OUT OF WARRANTY

At this point I still have no reponse from Philips.

everything from Philips is junk. I'd prefer all my DVDs in blu-ray now anyway. I'm slowly making my computer into an entertainment station. HD all the way

Just save the cash for a blu-ray player.
