This is similar to the two 4 port ones I have that look like Gumby. And no added/external power.

But they do come in handy. The USB port positions on my PC make using the couple on the back inconvenient, and when using my laptop at home, have 3 USB ports plus one shared with eSATA.

I have external USB/charged speakers, USB mouse, a Bluetooth receiver, an LED snake light attached, and an external eSATA drive dock. So it's almost mandatory to own a "Gumby" or one of these for my uses.

Comes with external power wall wart, needed for longer runs and more hardware.

Seems like the weight of this plus the gadgets or cables you'd plug into it would start to be a strain on the host system's port you plugged it into, and or it would pull out, disconnecting itself.

    artcab: haha, good one!

dave_c: i think that problem might arise only with a desktop PC. in that case, a little duck tape should take care of it.

Nope # 6. Only if you let it hang. When you have these port hubs, you have them laying on top of something. The three LED snake lamp I have is more host port stressing.
