I have one of these, and while it works great, those damned LED's are a pain at night.

It wouldn't need the ac adapter to power led's, they can suck enough power from the usb port. So I have to wonder if something is wired wrong if you can't get any power with the ac adapter plugged in.

#4, you'll need the ac adapter to power the 7 USB gadgets you connected them to the device. It also helps recharging some devices while your computer is off.

The one I got from Meritline was not USB 2.0 and did not work more than 50% of the time when I plug it in. And when it did work, was at USB 1.0 speeds. I contacted Meritline about the problem, they quickly refunded me instead of trying to replace the product or fix the problem. Also, I ordered a similar product from ebay with same colors, product design, lights, etc. Also had same problem, works intermittently at USB 1.0 or not work at all. Got a refund from second seller too when I contacted them to ask for help in repair or replacement of the product. Neither of them even want me to ship the product back. In the end, I got all my money (shipping was free with both sellers/merchants), two useless 7 port hubs with overly bright colorfully LEDs, a BIG waste of time, and still without a 7 port USB 2.0 HUB.

I eventually got a 7 port hub with a different design.

Been using Stair @ Brand New High Speed USB 2.0 Hub- 7 Ports, from Ebay instead. A couple of bucks more but worth the money because it is USB 2.0 and always works. No problems the Stair USB hub for the past 3 months of using it.

this is only a usb 2.0 COMPATIBLE hub. it is NOT usb 2.0 speed. i bought one 2 mo ago and found you only get 1.1 speed so i sold it on craigslist for $5 and ended up losing $2

Thanks for the review, looks useful but I guess for that price you can't expect anything great hah.

If you are planning to use for low-performance items, this seems to be a good choice, considering the price.

Bought a couple. If you are looking for something to connect low speed items (such as mice), it will work fine.

As stated above, this is not a USB 2.0 device. If you hook a hard drive to it, you will sloooowly go insane waiting for files to transfer.

I have one of this. Have no problem. 4th of July all the time though.

PS. How do you measure whether it is working at USB 1.1 or 2.0 speed?

    Thanks.

#12 you don't need to measure... the description says it:

"With support for high speed transfer rates up to 12 Mbps..."

    12 Mbps is USB 1
