is this thing any good, hope the wheel doesn't warp on delivery
I got this bike two weeks before. It works so nice. It is nothing I can say to this $158 bike, except it is little bid heavy. Get it, no regret.
I've heard some pretty bad reviews on this bike. I recall a large issue of discomfort came up on riding this bike.
aluminum bike for $160? That is a good deal.
Unless you are a pro cycler, i think this bike is good enough for daily riding or exercising.
If I'm not mistaken, Amazon sells this for 170. It doesn't seem like such a good deal.http://www.amazon.com/GMC-Denali-Road-Bike/dp/B000FDDWB6
Last I knew $158 beat $170. Add to that Walmart's liberal return policy if something goes wrong or you don't like it and I'd have to say Walmart is the winner.
Hmmm, this is a good deal. occasionally though you can get clearance bikes at target B&M. I picked up a schwinn prelude 700cc, 14 speed i think, for $25. This was last february or so.
Beware when buying this bike in-store....Wal-Mart employees are completely inept at building bikes, and everything should be double-checked by someone who knows what they're doing.
Low cost = cheap parts...bolts and cables and misc. parts will rust easily on this bike, and the low-grade aluminum is heavy and unresponsive. Bike is fine if you don't need anything fancy, but I highly recommend buying a similar-priced used bike off craigslist from a knowledgeable seller that has better, longer-lasting components. Los Angeles Craigslist, for example, has the following bikes which are a better deal than the Denali sold by Wal-Mart:
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/bik/1411629272.html
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/bik/1411602798.html
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/bik/1411393224.html
etc.
Is this company getting taxpayer bailout money?
#9, you linked to all mountain bikes, this is a road bike. FAIL.
what's cheap on this bike? components. Buy this bike and convert to fixed gear, great way to get a decent ride for very cheap!
I know someone who is a casual rider and got this bike and likes it a lot.
Great find! I've been in the market for a new boat anchor for some time now.
crappy pos
wow, better than the FLEA MARKET unless you find a REALLY nice stolen bike
Aluminum, by default, is more brittle than steel, and has less give. In order to fix these problems, a lot of stuff must be added.
Adding stuff adds weight, which almost negates the purpose of using aluminum. It's only worth it if it is done correctly. Believe me, nothing sold at Walmart is going to fall into that category.
Your average $50 steel bike is probably a better choice than this. If you really are on a budget (sub $400), then do what I did -- buy a good used bike. It will last a lot longer and be more comfortable than this garbage.
#11, don't be a burp rodeo cowboy. The bike in this deal is not a true road bike, it just looks like one. Road bikes are defined by their geometry and components, and this bike fails in both categories. Sure it has drop bars, but I know a lot of mountain bikes with drop bars. And the skinny tires don't really count towards anything - I guarantee I can ride faster and farther on one of those bikes with slicks than you can on that piece of baconnaise Denali. If you want a real road bike, you will have to spend a bit more cash or find something decent on craigslist.
And NO, you can't just simply convert this bike to a single speed. You would need to do the following steps that require a certain level of skill, a few bike-specific tools, and some knowledge:
1. Buy new chainring bolts that are single-ring specific (about half the length of a normal bolt) and remove the unused rings (this requires you to remove the crankset, which takes a crank puller tool).
2. Replace the cassette with a single cog and spacer kit, and add a chain tensioner because the frame doesn't have horizontal dropouts. (This requires you to remove the cassette using a cassette removal tool and a chain whip, as well as the knowledge to put together a correctly spaced chainline.)
3. Remove the shifters, housing, cables and derailleurs. (this is a simple step, but you still have to re-wrap the grips when you're done.)
And why would you convert a heavy, piece of baconnaise bike with weak rims and crappy brakes into a single speed when you can buy a high-quality commuter or cruiser for the same price? Those bikes I linked to would make better single speeds due to their quality of components and geometry, and you could probably re-sell some of the parts to make up for the price of the conversion kit.
Not like I would know, I only have 2 mountain bikes, 1 single speed MTB, 1 carbon road bike and 1 ... [Truncated]
is this really that bad of a deal for a cheap bike that is semi like a road bike?
I love reading the bike posts. I did not know there were so many nerdy bike snobs.
#18, no it's not a bad deal, but you will find yourself wanting more if you ride fairly often, especially after you realize that nearly everything on the bike is crap.
You're better off finding something used (and old, if necessary) that's in good shape and fits well, just go talk to an employee of your local bike shop if you have questions.
#19, there's a difference between being a snob and knowing to not buy crappy stuff. People don't go out and buy the cheapest computer they can find...they buy the best one that's within their budget. The same thing should be with bikes, and the primary difference is often used bikes are significantly better than their new counterparts (especially at this low of price point).
