My experience with the USB version is that it has problems with compatibility, and corrupts the file system about half the time it is used for anything besides a USB stick. It also requires FAT16 or FAT32, with a specific cluster size (according to the manual), and FAT is a bad choice for huge drives. SO, YMMV.
Oh, and it takes F'ing forever to open the tray, process the disk, etc.
