get the "overpriced fancy one" because it is a far superior remote when compared to the ms one. This remote is worth every penny, it's very customizeable and the activity buttons are great. You will not need any other remote after you purchase this one. It runs every device in my A/V setup, including my off-brand source selector. The software for setting up the remote is very easy to use. Only complaint is the battery life, not very good it seems. Highly recommend this!

This one is very comparable to the 550 model and has few extra programmable buttons.

I concur with #3. I was skeptical at first about its usefulness but its proven it's worth. I like that you can specify devices for certain functions as default. For example, it knows to adjust volume on the receiver, not the TV. Depending on the activity selected (ie: watching a DVD) it will know to use the correct device controls for the proper actions. This is done without having to specify a device before hitting the function. It feels much more natural, as a universal remote should be.
Set up was very simple. I havent had battery issues yet, though.

Would it make sense to buy this even if you don't have an XBox?

#7, this is just like a normal Logitech remote, except it's got the Xbox theme with xbox controller buttons. Get it if you need an universal remote. Like stated in my earlier post, it's basically the 550 but with extra xbox stuff.

#10 - You could set your 550 to use any 4 unused 'hard' buttons for A, B, X and Y.

This will *not* work with your PS3 straight out of the box. The PS3 does not have an IR receiver, and this is an IR remote. You can buy a USB IR dongle for the PS3, and then use this remote with mixed results. You will *not* be able to power on/off the PS3 with this setup. To be able to power on/off, you will need to buy an IR to BlueTooth converter.

I should mention. I have this remote, and love it. It works for absolutely every device I own except for my Ps3. I have a USB IR dongle for the PS3, but have given up on using it. It is slow and there are .5 - 1 sec gaps between key presses being registered. I now just use my PS3 controller while watching bluray movies.

I had some slow times with this an my xbox too, part because i was using Media Center with it over wireless, and another part was a setting for the remote where you can adjust the delay.
Awesome remote BTW. I got mad at the tv once and threw the remote on my couch and it caused the screen to bleed out a little. But I called logitech (on the last day of my year warranty) and they sent me a replacement.. but what was great.. is that they sent me a new remote (in original packaging) and told me to throw away my old one once the new one was received. But the old one still works, just a mark on the screen. They flagged the old one so that I could not update it via Harmony software but I did find a 3rd party software that i can still update the old one.
