In fact, this power supply is based on components that can actually handle a good bit more than the 600watts it is rated for. In the review of this PSU at Hardware Secrets, they were able to pull about 730watts before over power protection shut the power supply down(safely), and do it while keeping the output power in ATX specs. This shows that they certainly aren't trying to push the platform right to its limits.
If you need a good power supply at a reasonable price, this is an excellent choice. 600watts is enough power to handle pretty much any single graphics card computer(even a 9800GX2 or GTX 280), and most SLI or Crossfire setups.
