Main problem with these Base + Handset models are that if the base fries the other 3 phones stop working as well. I have one (Mine's a base plus 1 handset) and its been good for a year or so so that might not happen often.

#2 so what! For $46 who cares? It has a warranty and if it dies after that get a new set. Buy two sets for spares if it troubles you so.. The world is full of things to worry about, this isn't one of them. This aint no shangra la..
