Ben,

This is only the legs and the rail. You still have to buy the table top. That's another 100 bucks. Still a great deal.

Great for filming shots for your budding pooorn career; awful for actually playing billards on.

Might be good to pull a Drew Carey and set it up in the yard.

Yeah, but how much for the foosball, checkers/chess and ping pong add-ons? This is clearly no Harvard product.

Now I don't have an excuse to play pool on the floor anymore.

Slatron? My google hits weren't encouraging.

slatron is not bad, its just high density fiberboard. Mine held up quite well for a few years until I sold it.

Got it for $264.88 delivered. Even if the slatron has to be replaced down the road with their slate top it seems like a great deal.

I would only buy a pool table with actual slate. You can buy a used one for not much more than this setup would cost.

Debating weather I am best off buying this or building my own. I have a great slate surface, on a very crappy, falling apart table. Does anyone know if this is actually solid wood, or is it vener over particle baord like the current POS I own.
#12   Attikai - Posted 1:29 pm PDT 07/24/08 (15 Posts)
It says mahogany veneer so I'm sure it's particle board underneath. Buy it, use your slate, and have a brand new POS that looks good.
#13   foomench - Posted 1:30 pm PDT 07/24/08 (791 Posts)
$100 and you're asking if it is solid wood?
#14   Attikai - Posted 1:53 pm PDT 07/24/08 (15 Posts)
The reviews say the legs are plastic and therefore ugly. I might just paint them black.
#15   rdcollns - Posted 1:53 pm PDT 07/24/08 (696 Posts)
No, solid wood wasn't the right term. I was really just questioning build quality. They could use plywood and a decent wood veneer and still hit a decent price point (keep in mind this states a regular price of $700), or they could use that contact paper like plastic veneer over particle board. The first wouldn't be so bad, but the second is terrible. Apparently this is even worse since they say the legs are particle board legs with a fully plastic sleeve. The reviews on Sears.com say it all.

With a little bit of imagination one can build a bobsleigh out of this and participate in the Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouvre. Price Albert of Monaco will be interested of testing one out, I guess. Tree man and the prince on such a table ... what a ride!

#16, what the crap? Where is Vancouvre, and who is Price Albert, and how is he "interested of testing one out?" Is that homosexual terminology? Your statement doesn't even make sense. Is your photo an exact copy of the shape of your skull? What an idiot!

I'm calling the 8-ball in the left corner pocket for the win.

wouldn't buy considering all the hassel that you have to go through when moving out...
