I'd settle for a $300 drop. But hey, who's counting. Buy it before we are in a recession. Wink

Bought the same model at Frys in December for $900. It was on sale for 800 on Black Friday but sold out.
So, it seems like 50 dollars drop every six months. I guess it will be 700 on this year Black Friday.
The color is right, except black is a little too bright.
I hook it up to my PC, play call of duty 4 and bioshock flawlessly.
For the cheap ass like #1, good luck waiting for at least 2 more years while I get to watch movie every weekend on my 40".
    Oh, by the way, 849 + tax + 2year insurance + CA TV recycle = 1100 I believe.
So um, if you don't have a TV, if you have more than enough money, get it.

Here's my idea for a general TV strategy: buy a use DLP HDTV for cheap and wait for good prices on 1080P. What do you think?

People are probably getting rid of any TV they can't hang on their wall. The picture is probably better on those DLP TVs anyway (contrast and whatever).

Not really since the pixels are 16:9 aspect ratio.

DLP better than plasma? On what planet? RPTVs are far more expensive to operate than flat panels, high breakdowns.

Seen 1080p tv's from lg and toshiba in the $750-900 range... I'd blow the few extra sheckels.

#8, ever hear of an led light engine? high operating costs my ass. plasmas are not power efficient either.

    plasma takes up more current...

#10 You're going to get an LED DLP for less than a plasma. Nice try. You guys and your plasma power crap need to get with the program, it's a thing of the past. They only use high power in "torch" mode which no one ever uses. My 50" plasma sucks about an amp at my picture settings. When calibrated to Avia they suck less than 1 1/2 amps.

I found a side by side comparison for RPTVs, LCD, and Plasma

    Now continue bickering amongst yourselves.

Don't get DLP, even though the picture is good, it's huge, heavy, expensive, and it's real ugly. Pay a little more for a LCD, it's light, and mountable, and it will make your room look real modern. You might save a hundred or two buying a used DLP on craigslist, but can you sell it back for the same price? So in the long run LCD is the winner.

My electric bill is about $10 per month cheaper with my Panasonic 50" plasma than with my old 32" RCA CRT TV.

there isn't much 1080p content out there, so don't let the fact that 1080p panels are availiable stop you b/c there is not much content.

I guess you miss out 1080i channels if you use 720p TV. Almost half of the HD channels I get are 1080i.
