This might work great but HD Radio blows (and yes, I own an HD receiver - an Onkyo 905). The quality sounds like a crappy sample of an MP3 and most of the programming stinks. I don't see this technology being around for long unless things change.

#3, I've never listened to an actual HD radio, but when I learned about the standard sampling rate I realized all of their "CD-quality sound" claims were total crap. If you're driving around in your car there might be more advantages, g less audible interference, but it's not going to be CD-quality or anything even close, but then again if you have a crappy sound system you may not be able to tell the difference.

#3 You need to clarify a little. It sounds as though you're talking about the quility of the multicast stations, is that it? The HD1 station IS at a higher quality than the standard FM. That being said, if the stations you frequent have (and have always had) crappy mp3 audio as source material, it's likely that the noise associated with mp3s (which is mostly high band greater than 15kHz) was being filtered out by the FM process that removes all audio above 15kHz to make room for the pilot for stereo operation.

If in fact you're talking about an HD2, 3, etc. it is all depedant upon the station that is encoding them. There are a couple of options given to the broadcaster (one of which is mp3 ecoding) that allows them to choose how to encode. Beyond that there are serveral qualities for each encoding method. So it is possible that your broadcasters have done something to lower the quality.

Wouldn't a HDPC w/ a Shoutcast, Pandora, deezer, etc feed match or exceed any HD radio?

This receiver is praised all over the internet for excellent audio and reception of weak stations.

I bought one from Etronics a few days ago. With the $50 rebate and a $25 ebillme rebate it comes to $27.88. I had to buy something for $1.77 to get up to the $100 for the ebillme rebate.

Wireless remote? What product in the last 80 years came with a wired remote? Gee, maybe it has an On/Off button too.
