I got to test these @ BB a while back when they had them installed on a Sony receiver (Don't recall the exact model, But I think it was around 150/200watts). These speakers sounded like bacon, can't comment on how they taste though. Seriously, The bass is very "Boomy" and the center channel was no more effective than the satellites. The total system (including sub) is 15watts, what can you possibly expect them to sound like. The set of Insignia's that were also set-up sounded 100x better than these (They were about $75 more though). I'd stay far away from these unless you want a budget upgrade from built in LCD speakers.

#3, They may suit you fine for a dorm room @ low volume. However, IMO You can get 2.1 systems at this price that are more powerful and sound much cleaner. If on a budget, "Logitech" comes to mind as well as "Creative Labs". Go to a local Bestbuy or circuit city and listen to them for yourself before you buy them cheaper online. That applies to most, if not all of the speakers and LCD's we purchase.

For a dorm room I'd definitely prefer a 2.1 or even just a headset unless you have a single. You won't really be using your speakers much.
