This is a basic, basic unit but works good. You have to set the state first then go back through the nav steps to get to destination. Has almost 0 options- only favorites and POI's if I remember correctly.

#2 did you mean to say "am" rather than "was" or did #1 change your mind?
i'm thinking about getting this. was in nyc last week and the garmin 350 wasn't impressive. it gave wrong directions. my brother's no name brand gps received signals AFTER he made the turns - hence giving him out of date directions on the spot. so gps technology still needs a lot of improvements.
don't want to spend 200 and then complain. it's better if you spend only 85, get basic needs, and if there are flaws, you're not too surpised.

You'll be a lot happier with a refurbed Garmin 200W - which pops up from time to time for $100 or less... (news for $100 using Best Buy coupon)

I am not sure what #1 means by saying about "go back through the nav steps to get to destination". This unit works like any other GPS. You tell it where you want to go and it tells you how to get there. I have planned trips into other states with it and it just told me how to get there, no problem.
It is very fast. I have used Garmin NUVI's (both the 350 & 360) and Microsoft Streets and Trips and this is much faster. It is basic and does not have an SD slot. However, it does allow you to use Tom Tom's map share feature to receive updates that other users have made with their Tom Tom's. The updates include POI's that have been added by other users.

How much space is on the internal memory? I want custom voices and map updates!

I have this unit. It works well. True, it doesn't have a lot of extra features, but I've never wished it did more than it does. It has 1GB internal memory. On the plus side, they don't charge you for map updates.
If you didn't know, it runs Linux and there are a lot of hacks and open source applications for it.

#5 - you are right
#4 - why would one be happier with garmin 200?
#6 - i know i shouldn't be demanding for a $85 unit but questions nevertheless: can you do multiple destinations? if so - how easy is it to change an itinerary? with the garmin 350, after you've designed the itinerary, you cannot make changes. just checking. if these things don't apply - that's cool too.

#6 - does the unit give loud instructions? is it manageable in sunny days? is the screen clear and easy to see? are the map drawings (where the arrow points) - precise?
u'd think i should just go the store and see (and i intend to) but getting help at best buy and such isn't always easy. they take forever and the guy tries to just sell with info that i can see on the box rather than help you with your questions.

#10 - I keep it at about 60% volume and that's loud enough for my '02 Ford Taurus. 100% volume is far too loud for almost anyone. I've used it since May and have never had a problem seeing the screen not matter how sunny. The map is as precise at any other unit that gets their info from NAVTAQ. It's hard to tell how precise the location is, since the indicator will "lock" to the nearest road - which I have noticed on one or two occasions will have problems if you veer off onto an adjacent frontage road. But it will figure out which road you're on within a few seconds.

#9 Yes, it can do multiple itinerary. TT1 calls the feature "Route Planning," but each itinerary is for Point A to Point B only. You can change the route of an itinerary constantly and continuously by "calculating alternative route." During actual driving, if you missed a turn, TT1 would instantly correct its navigation in several seconds.
If you are going to a well established part of the city, TT1 is very good and accurate. If you use TT1 in newly developed areas, sometimes even for a road that was completed six years ago, TT1 does not work correctly. I have not used other brands of GPS, thus I don't know how well other GPS would work in the new areas.
Also, TT1 does not use the same map system as Google Map. Google tends to use more highway or major roads, while TT1 uses more smaller streets. I heard that Garmin uses the same map system as Google.
The current firmware for the TT1 3rd edition gets the compass reversed on the east and west. The compass points to the right when you head west. TT tech support says this would be corrected when the next firmware update is released.
