Insane price on a fine tape-based camera. Image quality is spectacular, but camera motor noise can be intrusive in quiet shooting situations.

Over $150 less than what I paid...

It was worth every penny at $775.

I have the HV20 which is essentially the same camera minus a 30P mode. It's a stunningly good image for a consumer level camera. It even works pretty well in lower light. It's got a full range of manual controls, some more ergonomic than others, and numerous shooting modes. It captures HD to miniDV tapes which makes editing a snap.

The tape noise on the audio can be intrusive when one is indoors. I have an external microphone attached which alleviates the problem, but it's not something one always wants to use. If a little tape noise will bother you than look for a camera that captures on SD cards.

The HV30 is the camera of choice for the serious hobbyist who's willing to invest a little time to learn its myriad other features.

This is a great price for it.

Ditto on the HV20. Love it to death. The only thing i don't like about these model is that when using the eye sight instead of the lcd to square up your shoot, it's a little uncomfortable. There is no rubber around the eye piece. I rarely use it anyways. Besides this little nit pick, it's on bad ass camera for the money. A friend of mine prefers the film I took at his wedding over the videographers. Need I say more?

nice camera.. I was going to hold out for the HF100 (same thing but SD Card storage) but at that price.
