This is a good price for an entry-level gaming card. It's about equivalent to the 9600GT, and that card costs a good deal more.

Well this isn’t the Superclock that most indicate has a different (upgraded) power section and memory which provide the robustness to overclock. These are still fine cards especially for this price.
To bad Nebegg went OOS for the Superclock and has deactivate, while the SC is still found a TigerComp $90, but that deal doesn’t touch this. –AR = Life time Warranty…
For $90 Egg has the 9600GSO version (basically the same as the SC) but with a nice dual slot cooler, though only a two year when registered. Humm… wonder if the code would work for that also it would get you down to $72 shipped.

"most" indicate it? Who, aside from you, has done so? In other words, you agree with CompWiz17's accurate assessment, leave it at that.

And it took less than a minute to verify that the code for the advertised product doesn't work for the 9600GSO, which you could have easily determined for yourself if you weren't, as always, so busy talking out your ass - unintelligibly.

Be careful! All 8800, 9800, 9600 series have suspicious faulty chips inside, buy it at your own risk...

I bought one just for folding proteins. I overclocked a bit and get about 4500 PPD. GEEKS for a CURE team ID#84451

    TechnicolorYawn,
Well it's this point Iâll concede that no I canât find where the information exactly came from in regards to the âSuperclockâ getting those upgrades. But honestly I remember a Benâs topic where someone had a link, and it showed where a SC used Samsung memory 1.0Ns and 3 phase power with Solid Polymer capacitors. That was why I liked the SC version, Iâm not pushing for the overclock, just that the $10-12 up charge for those components and well worth it long term.
And yes I might have tried the code, but honestly I have a life, while Iâm not looking to buy so good for you for trying it. Would you have wrote back and said it worked? Probably not that's the kind of troll you areâ¦

Itâs been a heated discussion on all the 8800GS line, and it looks to continue right up to their being deactivated. Guyâs like Sliver and dave_c had moved me enough, that over time the EVGA SC version finally won me over as a fine âbudget gamerâ once to price got into the $100 point. <img src="http://bensbargains.net/forum/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" border="0" /> Itâs amazing how far graphic cards have gone in like 6 months, today it's more the revered GT...

If you read the forms on these review there was ton of controversy on this line of cards. Good luck

read the article, they're talking about desktop cards as well.

Also, here are a few other articles:

Nvidia G92s and G94 reportedly failing

All Nvidia G84 and G86s are bad

Nvidia changes desktop G86 for no reason

I think the most telling article there is the last one. nVidia has publicly stated that the "Underfill material" is the defective part of the notebook GPU's. Apparently, when subjected to temperature cycles(hot then cold then hot), it slowly comes apart, allowing the ASIC chip to become disconnected.

Strangely enough, nVidia just changed the underfill material on their desktop G86 based graphics cards(8300, 8400, 8500 series). In their press release, their reason for this change is to: "enhance package robustness". So, they are indirectly admitting that the desktop G86-based graphics cards manufactured before July 25th 2008 are defective. Obviously, if these cards were not defective, there would be no reason to make a change on such an old, soon to be obsolete and discontinued part.

There are also some indications that the G92 and G94 desktop cards are affected as well. Since nVidia has been using this same defective "underfill" material since at least the GeForce Go 6xxx series, it wouldn't be a surprise if they used it on the newer G92 and G94 parts as well, before they knew it had problems.

The problem is, if nVidia actually admits that most of their graphics cards are defective, they'll have to do a huge recall, and they can't afford it. Even if they just recalled the laptop G84 and G86 parts(the parts which they've said are definitely defective), they would go bankrupt. Another problem is that the parts being used to replace the malfunctioning notebook GPU's are also defective. The only "fixed" graphics parts so far are the desktop G86 parts(the ones manufactured after 7/25/08 ).

So, if you're thinking about buying a nVidia graphics card, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?

First, you admit that you can't even place where you drew this stuff about
"many have said" from. Yet most every time the 8800GS has come up in the last 6 months (yeah, I checked your links) you've parroted that as established fact. That's what you always do, present your opinions as facts when they're just your opinion. You're an authority because you say you are. What you are is a joke, a joke made funnier by your fierce determination to have the last word amid a flurry of misspellings, sentence fragments and allusions that are funniest to you alone.
And there you go again, even funnier with your assertion that you couldn't be bothered to follow up your speculation about the 9600GSO being on sale with something as insignificant as a fact, because you have a life. Right. You've got time to post 3 screens worth of content to capture your brilliant speculation, but you don't have time to actually see if something you're too busy speculating about ... [Truncated]

If you can't address the points I raised regarding your continued, heedless use of misinformation and your inability to express yourself sensibly, it probably is smarter to resort to ad hominem attacks. It's all you have to defend yourself with, after all.
