the main benefit of the navigons that ben didn't mention is that they have lifetime free radio traffic subscription. all other companies charge $40-60/yr. Other than that though it appears that navigons are mediocre (-haven't used them yet, that's judging from the CR comparative review.)

I have a 7100 and the main thing I hate about it is the way it harps at you to make a U-turn when you decide to avoid the recommended route. It also takes you on some interesting routes that you know are not the most direct. But, all in all, it's not that bad.
