Seagate simply just sold out of a discontinued item. Some people actually got their hard drives so next time order sooner, and visit other websites which post these deals hours before ben.

I do agree with your "first come, first served, so look early and often" philosophy on these things, and I have no problem with them posting a deal and selling out. I question a company, especially a high tech one, whose online store does not have a real-time inventory system (or at least pretty darn close to real-time... I believe they were still taking orders 8 hours after my order was accepted).

Also, they put a hold on my credit card. It wasn't a huge hold since I only ordered one item, and it had no real effect on my available balance, but the fact that they tied up my money and did not release it for days after the cancellation bugs me. What if I had used a debit card instead of credit card, and what if I *needed* that item but did not have additional funds available? Yeah - that's a lot of "if's", but that situation did happen to me years ago, and it pissed me off beyond belief.

I agree with No. 21. There was no excuse for the sloppiness and lack of consideration for customers Seagate demonstrated during that sale. Not only did they take orders for hours and hours and hours after their stock was depleted, but they waited four or five DAYS to notify people that these orders were canceled. I'm not going to reward that kind of behavior by purchasing any more of their products either from them or from a retailer.
