    I've seen negative posts in the past on the WD NAS devices. People have said that they will only support sharing certain file extensions (e .doc .xls .mpg .mp3) over CIFS/SMB. Why there would be any limitation is beyond me. I wonder if this is true?

    It's true, but most people know how to hack them. You basically go in turn of that stupid process that blocks all those types of files being share. They actually are pretty cool drives, mine also shares my music files to itunes. They are basically a mini linux system with samba installed. The big knock on them is that they have pretty pathetic transfer speeds. This is due to the pretty slow cpu inside the case as the ethernet connection is at least 100Mbps maybe bigger, but you'll never use it all. Mine is a 500gb version but i'd imagine it's the same.

    two-drives are OK, singles are slow - probably they have different CPUs
