I have this too, and yes it's an excellent printer.
However, you have to use Canon replacement ink cartridges. The chip on the ink cartridges will disable the printer of all functions if one of the chips thinks the cartridge is empty.
I bought after market cartridges without the chip and transfered them to the new cartridge, but the chip still thought that the cartridge was empty and disabled the printer. According to Canon there is NO way to disable or reset the chips.
If any one knows of a way to reset the chips or turn the chip function off all together, please post your answer.
I have been starting to see after market cartridges with chips but I haven't tried them yet.
If I knew that I was going to have this issue with this printer, I would have chosen a different printer that doesn't utilize a chip on the cartridges.

$23.50 for a 5 pack with the chip, not bad.
...and those exact directions came with the cartridges I bought without the chip. Unfortunately, the procedure described in the instructions does not work. I bought (2) 5 packs from ebay for $10.00, not a huge loss I guess.

Your link doesn't work, but I plugged in the item number in your link on ebay. Seems like that might work. In the long run that might save a bit with cheap ink from ebay. I only paid $99.00 last December for this printer and hate to spend half the price on a chip resetter, but that's typical.
#4 and #5,
Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it!

The MP530 looks great, performs very well and is a good price. This unit is better in every department than the other inexpensive multifunction printers. As a final thought, it looks really nice. It makes a nice addition to home office. Hope these reviews may help.
