the 120gb nand flash is the hard drive? Is that the same as the solid state drives?

That will be a better deal when it is available - slightly bigger hard drive, but comes with a 6 cell battery. According to Engadget, this was listed at 399.95 before it became unavailable.

it is NOT a SSD drive. It is a regular hard drive. It doesnt say say that at the buy.com link. the other cheaper linux versions of this laptop have a small ssd drive, the XP home version (which I have) has a standard 120GB 5400 RPM HD.

Dude! I know! For the drive alone, it's worth the 400. but if it's an HD, not so much of a deal... just ok...

My mistake - you can pre-order the white, but not the blue. Go figure

I figure you can preorder the white, but not the blue.

How would this compare to the Dell mini and the Asus version?
    #10   hmmwv - Posted 1:15 pm PDT 09/5/08 (106 Posts)
I think the EeePC 901 is a better machine, but $50 more. The Dell mini 910 is a POS when configured at $400. Fully loaded mini is okay but close to $500, at that price you might as well just get a Wind.

    ^^^^Where is the eeepc 901 $450?!!

How is this a good deal when you can get the same thing at Bestbuy for $50 less? Unless the white is a $50 option

#11, I got my Asus eee901 at new egg. I am not sure if it is still there for 450 but it is the one with the 20gb ssd, linux...etc. So far, I like it. Only complaint is the keyboard takes getting used to. But if you buy one of those wireless laptop mouses, it makes the keyboard easy to use. It is half the size of a reg notebook and the battery life is staggering. I could surf on wifi for about 3.5 hours. The version of linux it comes with is a breeze and very self explanatory. I like the Asus version but I have not had a chance to mess with the others...

    Only pre-order on Amazon
However, 6 cell Battery seems not fit for general notebook sleeve.

#14, I saw that posted by #2.. my comment is about the deal that was posted as a supposed bargain at buy.com..

I agree $50 for the extra 40GB and 6 cell battery is worth it. You can now buy the 6 cell battery by itself but it is $118

I'm temped to preorder from Amazon... It seems like the preorder is better than Lenovo S10's preorder...

$350 at microcenter every day. No regular scroll on touchpad, so I'm waiting.

It seems like a good deal but I will wait for SSD option.
