Do yourself a favor and buy a Dell Latitude ($500+tax shipped) or a Toshiba Satellite (as low as $450 from time to time). HP/Compaq's just don't last and customer support is awful!

It has been my experience that the Compaq and HP laptops are good but I like the better graphics in the AMD models. The Intel graphics are only good for basic stuff, which is OK if you won't be playing games or videos, but how many people just use a laptop for strictly business activity?
I bought a Toshiba Satellite A75 demo from CompUSA a few years ago, decked out with all options, and the motherboard would overheat and shut off without warning after I owned it about 2 years. I found out too late that there was a class-action lawsuit against Toshiba for this defect. Had to sell it on eBay for parts.
