They are trying to blow these out now because the new Tivo HD was released which comes with 1TB of storage in it, THX certified, the Glow remote, etc. Granted it is $599 though 
It's SO easy to just add a 1TB drive of internal storage to your TiVo HD. You will void support though. If you're out of warranty already, who cares, do it.

I just added a standard 500GB My Book to my Dish DVR for $90, and it works just fine. They're charging 50-70% more for this "special" DVR labeled My Book which is, near as I can tell, it's the same thing.
