    What a disappointment!
The ACER and ASUS units in this same market space are less costly and more functional. $350 spent elsewhere buys more - camera, RAM, SSD, etc. In fact, I think it is ACER that's just dropped to $330 with an 8GB SSD and camera.

I'm a DELL fan, but this is nothing to cheer about.

yeah but dell's have a knack for better build quality and a legendary history of quality.

#2 - not lately .. my latitude failed twice (original and replacement) in a span of 2 months. Acer used to be crap (had one too), but recently it's been much better.

Dell notebook will also come with a legendary turbo-jet fan that you can even hear and feel it in your dream...

#2, if you like dell's better build quality, call michael dell and tell him he's making a costly mistake. dell just announced that in the next 18 months they're closing all of the us manufacturing plants and outsourcing them overseas. bad for our economy, probably bad for quality, and certainly bad for service and support. bad dell, bad. so much for buying american...

You can attribute the failures to bad engineering choice by nvidia. Dell's build quality is by no means stellar but its way above average.

Turning the discussion back to the "deal": same price as last week. Not so much a deal.

Actually, you're exactly wrong. Read the review at anandtech.com. He takes this and a Eee apart, the Dell is the only one that doesn't have a fan.

That review is worth a read for anyone in the market.

Can I get a $349 running Ubuntu, and load it with Windows XP later on? If I have my own windows XP?

    Please comment...

Can imagine this is called a deal, AA1 with far better specs are sold for the same $350, and it has one of the best build quality among all netbooks. And Dell tries to sell the XP version at $450?! That's the new price for EeePC 1000h.

But, Dude.. if you buy this then you're gettin' a Dell!!

Where's the beef? 4gb main drive? Looks like a OLPC (one laptop per child) model that was supposed to come in at $100.

#5, people are not as retarded as you are. How good are Chevy, dodge, FORD compared to Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Acura or even the crappy Nissan in terms of quality? I don't know from where you got this "belief" that something made in US has the best quality in the world. Why don't you do everyone a favor by buying products made only in US.

People want best bang for buck and usually do not buy just because they are made in the USA.

    You're one incompetent whining bitch.

This is an underachiever at this price, and months behind the curve. I'm surprised they even put it on the market at this point, and at this price point.

    Asus Eee pc 900 / 901

    Acer Aspire One

    Dell Inspiron Mini 9

    Lenovo S9 / S10

Which netbook do you favor, and why?
Does HP has a netbook / umpc ?

#5, you better stop bad mouthing Dell. Dell is a true Texan company. So what if they offshore all of the American jobs? The people that Dell employs are probably illegals anyway. I am in the top 10% of income earners in this great country (USA). Offshoring jobs means cheaper goods for the "super rich" like me. A top 10% income earner like me only buys the best of the best like my Toyota Corolla or my other Toyota Corolla. Of course when I found out that Toyota was a foreign brand I switched to a Chevy Cavalier (who can tell nowadays?).

Well I gotta go and barbecue some tatters! See ya.

I distinctly remember a pompous Michael Dell being asked what he thinks Steve Jobs should do with Apple (pre-iPod and OS X).

Michael Dell: I think Jobs should give the shareholders their money back and he should resign.

I'm no fanboi, but by those standards Mikey Dell should give his shareholders their money back and take a dirt nap.
