Pretty sure that gold plating is not going to last very long. Just like your marriage if you are wearing this.
The leading cause of divorce is marriage.
Nothing says I want you forever like an $18.00 wedding ring.
The leading cause of marriage is stupidity.
#1: If it really matters to you what kind of ring it is then that's the problem in the first place.
The leading cause of stupidity is stupid parents.
I have a platinum ring that cost ~$1000USD. I wish I would have just bought the tungsten one for $25.
I don't understand the priority of price in jewelry. Especially men's jewelry. Is that a metro-sexual thing or something else? A platinum ring is no different than steel, tungsten, tantalum, rhodium, rhenium, aluminum, ruthenium, titanium, etc... To a guy, they should be all the same thing. Silver metal.
If you want to symbolize "your eternal love", I would think the more durable the metal, the better. Wasting money on rhodium plated white gold would seem to be counter intuitive. Maybe the reapplication of the rhodium layer symbolizes high maintenance marriages?
The gold plating will wear off ugly though.
I think same-sex people should be allowed to get married. After all, why should only heterosexual people be miserable?
Jewelry isn't about the looks or durability, it's about the cost, so you can show off how much money you are willing to spend on superficial things just to show off your adoration.
And also a lot of it is marketing tricks like the diamond companies completely inventing the idea that a wedding ring has to have a big fat expensive diamond on it and that this was somehow tradition even though nobody did it before the diamond companies ran ad campaigns about it.
Like #10 said women like to show off their "stones" to their friends. You rarely see a guy showing off his wedding band. I am in the jewelry business so I know first hand. Girls are always the picky ones. Most guys just want to buy a wedding band and get it over with and girls want to try everything on.
There are alternatives to diamonds out there. Most people who can't afford diamonds buy CZ or cubic zirconium. Then there is moissanite, a stone that is lab created which is almost as hard as diamond, has even more "fire" than a diamond and only costs around $400 a carat. Then there is lab created diamond. It's still a diamond but costs significantly less than it's natural counterpart.
Anyway all plating comes off eventually. People don't know that there is NO SUCH THING as White gold. White gold is still made of yellow gold. Just different metals were added to make it appear white. The unfinished white gold looks yellow. It's polished and then plated with rhodium. Alot of customers come back to me saying that I sold them a yellow ring not a white. Only platinum will not change color.
New-Age = Materialism
#8, I admire your mentality and intuition.
#2, haha..
Nothing says I love you like dirty kinky sex.
I won't discriminate. I'll take clean ordinary sex as well.
PRO: $18
CON: Stainless steel, poor quality gold plating.
If a girl wants one of these. She's a keeper. If you have a girl that has some taste, try Costco and hope there's an employee discount you can scam.
La dee fricken da.
My cigar band was free.
#2 The leading cause of Divorce is lack of Communation,Understanding and Respect. If you got all those three, Then there's no such thing as DIVORCE.
#15 I understand your point, But that's not a good way to see it. I'am not asking her to get a Million dollars stone or ring, How about something under 1000 or 500 bucks that sound reasonable for average couple, 18 bucks for a Wedding Ring too is too cheap that's my own opinions. She got to be motivated to want's things in life, Not for herself but, For you and your Family, That's how some people live in Big House, Drive Expencive Car, ECT,ECT. You got to know, Is she Loyal? Faithfull? Trustfull? and If She got those three, She pretty much a keeper..
The cost for something symbolic like a wedding band is not something should not be taken into consideration by you or your SO. It isn't the cost that matters; marking yourself in such a way is priceless, whether it's by means of an $18 dollar band or a $10,000 band. If your SO is so shallow that he/she can't understand why you didn't blow 2 months salary on shiny piece of junk, then you may be better off with someone who is actually in love with YOU and not your paycheck.
