FactoryDirectDeals has the 8 Pack Solar Garden Lights for $40 + $8 shipping = $48 shipped. These lights have solar panels, which charge the built-in Ni-Cd rechargeable batteries. [BizRate]

These look OK and the price is fair, but the ad splash says "SOLAR Lanterns MAKE YOUR HOUSE STAND OUT!"

Unfortunately, where I live things have become so bad that the house standing out is the last thing anyone here would want!

I think I'll pass and let my house look run down and uninteresting...

Ni-Cd batteries don't have very many charge cycles correct? Or there is something to do with the "memory" of the battery. I'm guessing after a period of time it wouldn't be able to hold much of a charge.

    firefly. LOL

It's an LED light. What do you expect? I would guess only 1 LED in there with a reflector to make it shine down.

#3, the problem with Ni-Cd is the memory they create. If you don't fully discharge the battery before recharging them, they will begin to hold a smaller and smaller charge.

I can't imagine a worse usage for Ni-Cd batteries. Constant partial-discharge and recharge. The only thing that would fix this would be if it sensed the charge on the battery and didn't recharge until the battery was almost dead - but that wouldn't work well in practical use since it'd allow the light to die at random times.
