It's from the Apple store so at least it's a good refurb.

#1 is right. I did once get a flaky 2nd gen nano that had to be replaced, but cosmetically, it was perfect. The replacement was also perfect and still works. The included Apple warranty is definitely worth it.

Their refurbs have been fine, with same warranty as new. But this is still pretty expensive for a discontinued 8GB player in my book.

Though one benefit is that many accessories for this will be on clearance because the new design is different.

While your description #5 of this product as "discontinued" is accurate, it's misleading. This had 99% of the usefulness of the new ipod nano, and the only real difference is the design and shape. I don't personally think an 8 GB mp3 player with a good 1 year warranty is a bad deal at all. The new ipod nano is $149, 50% more than this one.

I'll wait for a Gen4 Nano refurb.....I hate the square form factor of this one.
