It can be spelled both ways. Even google won't ask if you mean "web site" when you type in "website".
At least it is not as bad as the 40 year old guy who pronounces "often" with the "t". The "t" has always been silent. Then due to lots of uneducated people incorrectly pronouncing the "t", the dictionaries decided to say that was a valid pronunciation. The problem is that the 40 year old guy learned to pronounce it correctly without saying the "t" but now pronounces it with the "t".
When I hear someone pronounce "often" with the "t", I think what an uneducated person.
