this is a great router at a great price.
I wis buy.com said which version it was for open WRT usage, though.

Linksys have successively re-engineered this router, peeling off the layers, to what we have now - a cheap and nasty piece of shit.

This is a solid router. If you install DD-WRT, it can be even better.

Katore > This is the 54G, which, IMO, is a piece of crap.
Anyone thinking of modding should be looking for the 54GL (WRT54GL). The GL is a little more expensive, but has twice the ram and flash of the G.
Because of the limited ram and flash on the 54G, your modding options are limited.
/I recently replaced by last 54G with a new 54GL when the 54G died, now I have three 54GLs and couldn't be happier.
/Newegg had the GL for ~$50 last week ($60 - $10 instant rebate).

The GL is still $50 at newegg as of this posting. Well worth the extra $5 if you're considering modding.

A few years ago routers were easy. Anybody ask, you just told um to buy a Linksys. Then Cisco bought out Linksys and its been a long slow slid down hill. Most of the Linksys stuff isn't much better than Netgear, D-Link etc. etc.

I don't care what's happened to the quality, it can't possibly be as bad as Netgear routers.
