without saying what version it is, you don't know whether it's complete crap or partial crap.

with that attitude of yours, I reckon no matter which version you get, you'll always consider it to be absolutely crap

The version of the router determines what you can do with it. The older versions have more flash memory as linksys tried to cut production costs.

Linksys turned out good products until Cisco bought them out. Since then they've slid down hill and most of their stuff isn't any better than Netgear, D-Link etc.

This deal keeps coming up. I purchased one about two months ago, when it was backordered. I received a Version 8. You can install dd-wrt micro on this version. Works well. Have an uptime well over a month.

Nothing after v4 has 16MB ram or 4MB Flash ROM except the GL versions (which are renumbered as v1 even though that is a non-L version 4), all the rest including v8 have 8MB/2MB.
Since the only reason to care about memory amounts is alternate firmware, you should seek a different router. I recommend you do it the other way, pick the firmware you want and then look at that forum's wiki for supported models to make a list so you'll know when one has a good sale/rebate price.
