Isn't aluminum a better conductor than plastic, so shouldn't plastic be the better choice to keep your lap cool?

I wish this would fit my 17" laptop, do they make those?!

#2 - I have the ubiquitous Antec cooler and it works fine for my Inspiron 1720... the computer just hangs over the edge of it by an inch on each side. If you want one made as wide as a 17", here's one: http://www.sundialmicro.com/cooler_master_notepal_r9nbcawak_notebook_laptop_coole_1731_612.html
says it's 400mm and my 1720 is about 397mm

Plastic would be a better choice to keep your lap cool, but the point of this device is to keep your laptop cool.
