I actually lost the drive but still have the cap.

The cap snaps onto the rear end of the usb drive while being used (just like a pen cap). As long as you have the dicipline to take off the cap and attach it to the rear end every time you use it then you will not lose the cap.

You can even tether it to the body with some fishing line and Krazy glue. Then it will be extremely difficult to misplace.
