Not most modern laptops anyway, but many Toughbooks have gel or foam surrounding the drive, which can easily accomodate a few mm of extra thickness, at the expense of some cusioning.
And of course, older laptops (the 486 era) had space for 12.5mm drives. If I needed 500GB in my Thinkpad 500 or Zenith Noteflex, I'd know where to get it! Thanks, Ben.
