Although I don't regret my D40 purchase, had this kit been available at this price at that time I would have gotten this instead.

Better take a picture of a dozen roses for your D40.

With tax ~ $30 give or take depends on where you at, well, Amazon had it for $510. Stop picking on #1, I still want to buy the D40 over this Canon...cut me a deal on your (used) D40 #1? Oh by the way, NewEgg is on sale the D40 for $415 shipped, any regret on how much you paid for your?

#1 - No worrries, everyone is just busting your chops.
BTW - I just bought the D40 today, AFTER I saw this Canon XS deal. Got mine at NewEgg for $415 and I added a motherboard to get the total >499 to qualify for the 6 months no-interest NewEgg credit deal. Enjoy your D40, regardless of what some nuckles say the D40 is a nice DSLR.

# 6 - BJ's online doesn't list the D40, looks like it's on clearance only their BM stores.

#7, With tax, I paid $476 for the D40 a few months back. No regrets. No, you can't have it. I bought it to replace a Kodak P880 P&S that burned through batteries fast and responded slow. It's light enough to carry all day and it's more than useful above ISO 400.
#8, SLR's rule, especially at these prices.
#11, you can still buy brand new Canon 30D's for $699. I did. Do you need 10+ megapixels? I don't.

My D40 is a Nikon. My 30D is a Canon. It's madness.
