I don't know if the refurbished one works well, but I have one of this and that is really good. Specially while re-routing you, that is really quick.

I've seen lots of great reviews from people who got refurbed TomTom Ones. Good price, it's been down to $80 though, and with Black Friday around the corner, you may want to wait...

I have one and really like it. However, if I were to buy a new one I'd get a model that had "text to speech."

text to speech is overrated. I was given one with TTS for Christmas last year. At first it was a novelty and I used it all the time, but now even when on long trips when i am using it I find it just as easy to read the upcoming direction and the general distance then following the signs on the road to prevent error. I personally would save money and just pick up a wide screen unit with great clarity and mapping software and not worry about it having TTS.

These are great, I really enjoy mine. Just be aware that this model has the old maps, which cost about $60 to upgrade through TomTom. Overall a good value, but I'd spend a little more and get one with the newest map version.

I'll 2nd #6. Refurbed GPSs are not necessarily a deal. I bought this refurbed before and having the old maps was a pain. It would freeze when trying to find a route in East Los Angeles county and all tech support would do is suggest buying a new map, which did fix it, but if you're going to have to pay for a map, might as well just buy a new unit.

I can't speak for a refurb, but the TomTom is a great deal, especially for the price. Clear screen, nice nighttime color scheme/lighting, great time on re-routing if you miss a turn and, more importantly, you can download Dennis Hopper's voice to tell you where to go.
