While these may sound a lot better compared to generic ear buds, they don't offer great bang for the buck, however. For $20, a pair of vModa bass freq's can offer phenomenal bang for buck. An even better set would be the Jays q-Jays--- those rock.

I agree with everything else you said, but mid range? I think your standards are a little off from the norm.

    You're mistaken. Range isn't subjective.

Someone's perception of these as high end doesn't make it correct - these are very squarely placed in the mid-range in the general consumer world of earbuds/IEMs.

Your perception of value or worth is definitely subjective and my perception of value is definitely skewed compared to the average person but the location in the marketplace is objective.

LOL! I have a friend that recently spent over 50k on a speaker/ amp/ turntable combo. After spending several hours listening I have to say that it is an awesome sounding system. I guess that when you can afford the better stuff you develop an ear for it. Of course why would you be on this forum if you have bucks??? These qualify as the poor man's big sound, they won't shake the walls but they will treat you to some seriously good sound for a lot less than 50k.

I hate the earbud type of headphone. It hurts my ear canal. I would consider comfortability first.

I prefer isolation over noise canceling, I think it usually gives you much better base support. I have the the shure e3's and they're a great set of ear buds; great bass and mid, good highs. I heard the e2's, which these are analogous to have slightly worse bass but are about the same in other regards. As far as whether this are worth the price, probably not quite, but if you have the money for it you probably won't be disappointed by the sound quality.

Whats the point of $100+ earbuds? In most cases you'll be using theses with compress audio files that already have lost some fidelity.

Very pricey, but really great balanced sound.
