thinking about this for my mom who is paranoid about getting lost but I'm afraid it enables a person not to have to think while driving. hope I'm wrong

I just bought this unit after getting lost a few times around 5 boroughs. You still have to think when you are driving, but you don't get lost. It's great for destinations you don't know very well. I don't use the voice feature. I also don't use the traffic reports (extra $). The layout is good on the eyes. Occasionally the signal gets lost in Manhattan due to skyscrapers, but never outside. No voice recognition, but easy to put addresses into the unit. The unit separates from the suction cup easily so you don't have to carry the suction cup with you. For sure get the case on Tom Tom site - $10 or so. Also tells you the time when you get to the destination - useful if you are running late. Overall EXCELLENT. Lots of bells and whistles on other units - but this is all you really need.

GPS is nice but after a while they want you to download updated maps etc for $ and that's always a pain in the ass especially after you shelled out good money for a GPS system already
