Seems like a great deal - any thoughts on the TV experts out there?

#3 - I think it depends on your situation. Ambient light, viewing angle, material you are watching, how much weight you feel like lifting (plasma are heavy), etc.

This is a great deal. The 720p (TH-42PX80U) has usually been selling for this price lately.

Wow. I have the 720p version, and I paid more than this price (not that long ago). This is a great set, and the price is excellent... Wish I had waited.

This is not such a great deal. I got the 50 inch Panasonic from 6th ave for this price a few months back. This will probably be $100 less come black friday

I also have the 50" version, and I love it.

If you wait until 2011, this will be on eBay for $173. Waiting is always an option and crazy as it may seem, it will be cheaper then too! You can make a case for waiting a couple weeks, but it wouldn't shock me if prices creep back UP or level out between TG and Christmas because they know many people are "waiting" and have no choice at that point. Watch the prices for a couple weeks and pull the trigger when you're ready.

This tv displays 24p, 24 frames per sec. I don't think the $800 sharp does.
This plasma uses 567 watts, about 5 times more power then my current (crt)
TV and twice as much as this size LCD!
I'll pass.

Plasmas have much higher contrast ratios, blacker blacks, which translates into a more vibrant picture. LCDs have made great strides, but in my opinion the picture on a good plasma is still superior to that of a good lcd. Then again, the plasma I bought suffers from error diffusion...

Plasmas have a better picture. You can't really argue that point. These Panni's also seem to have a few more reliability issues than some of the samsungs I have been looking at. Check out the avs forums. there is a huge thread on the this.

I agree with #13. I prefer plasma over LCD personally. However, I also agree with #3. It depends on what you are watching.
I have two plasmas in my house. One a Pioneer...which is sweet, and last year's 50" version of this. I prefer the Pioneer, but the Panasonic is not far behind.
However, my parents are in need of a new TV for Christmas, and they will be getting an LCD. They watch mostly TV, the room it will go in is very bright so reflections would be a problem, and since they watch a lot of news and market reports, burn in by the news ticker at the bottom would be a problem with plasma. LCD is the way to go in that situation.
So, in short, going with plasma or LCD depends upon your situation and preference.
Good luck and enjoy.

I wish I was in the market for an HDTV. This is a really good deal especially since its free shipping. I hear this brand is great too.

I have 58" version. Nothing but good to say about Panasonic. I think I wasted my money on a 5 year extended warranty.

A 1080P Panasonic Viera is an affordable TV. Not only is it affordable but performs pretty good compared to everything else out there. As for the price, buy it. I'd rather have a Plasma than an LCD any day. Sony is actually in the process or production of an LCD rivaling the black level of plasmas so watch out for that product soon.
