This looks interesting. Plug in either laptop or desktop
drives, fast connection with eSATA, decent price. It even
has a 5-star review.

My only problem is that I have far more need to do this
kind of thing with PATA drives at this point.

recharges the hard drive too

I wish they start selling cheap protective caps for those devices too. I have one of those thermaltake versions. And, the more I use it, the more it gets scary. And the winter is coming, many will shock their drives within that device.

#3 -please advise you use USB or eSATA version of the thermaltake ? Thank you..

eSATA version is cool, but does it come with the dust cover ?

I guess this is a moot point but uh doesn't the vibration of not having the drive screw mounted kind of kill it a lot faster?

#2, what do you mean it "recharges the drive"?

#3, some of the more expensive ones have a flip up lid. It generally only costs about $10 more, but is probably worth it.

Regarding #6's comment, do these hold onto the hard drives securely enough to take that out of the equation?

haha.. what a great invention.. not
wow... amazing what people come up these days.
just get yourself a portable enclosure.

Yes, a good invention. You can invent such a device using your old desktop, though. Anyway, this dock combined with an internal hard disk is much cheaper than a external hard disk.

is this a good brand? good quality?

Is there really a good idea to mount your hard drive upside down like that? Also, I have my three internal hard drives just kind of sitting on top of each other at the bottom of my case. Is there really some kind of vibration issue I should be worried about? Really, I have enough things to worry about without adding hard drive screws.

It might run a little cooler without a dust cover. Maybe they scratched the dust cover idea to avoid people over heating their drives?

how long does a charge last? It looks like it was made from china or something? I checked the specs, it doesn't say if it uses Li-ion or Nimh.

i'm guessing that the dust cover would require a fan, which was more parts than they wanted to buy to build these things. and it makes it cheaper for us. however, i would wonder if the hard drive is not stable enough and would eventually die.

i would prefer an external case that is easy to open and swap out another HD.

Its worth 23 bucks to not have to slave cable your drive up to get stuff off it or help friends when they get a new computer and want their old files. #2's comment made me laugh. #7's comment made me stop.

lol@#14... #2 was being sarcastic.

It was $26 last week. $3 price reduction in one week. In about 7 weeks it will be free, if they continue to keep this trend!!!

great stuff considering I tend to not bother fully closing other external enclosures for the quick swap ability

Quick swap for an external drive - cool idea.
