These blue ray things are still too much $$$ in my opinion. The technology is not brand new and the parts cant possibly cost that much.... Wait till black Friday deals or post holiday sales and look for sub $100 deals.

how would the picture from this compare to a PS3? on a 1080 screen, that is.

#2 Not sure but wouldn't it be the same? I thought that the PS3 had the same Blue Ray drive in it that the Sony blue ray players have.

This unit has no onboard DTS-HD Master Audio decoding.

Can this unit send Bitstream?

This unit has no slow motion, and I am not kidding.

I almost bought it until I read that in a review, and although slow motion is used often, it is more useful than ever with high-def. How can you buy a player that is missing such a basic feature?

id hold out on buying this until black friday. i have a feeling they will be cheaper by then.

Even Apple is supporting Blu-ray. So why would m0f0, milf_hunter, and pedoph!le nuisance_sucks support HD-DVD? I guess unless Brokeback Mountain comes out in Blu-ray, those tent-dwelling trolls will continue to support HD-DVD.

Yes.

Dolby® TrueHD /DTS®-HD bitstream out over HDMI™ (V1.3)
Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD gives you sound quality that matches the crystal clear image of Blu-ray Disc™. With up to 7.1 channels of surround sound and audio that is indistinguishable from the original studio version, Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD promises you an extraordinary surround experience.

I'll buy one when they start selling it for 49.99 like the regular dvd player.

No slow mo? Overpriced - you bet. I wouldn't buy one

But don't just say PS3 is a better option just yet.

Had a friend compare one of these stand-alone players to the PS3 playback side by side on a 46" $4k display. These stand-alone players are considerably better quality than the PS3. The blocking artifacts are much more noticeable, banding, etc.

It's still not woth it yet at this price - especially with the content premium as well. I agree these should and probably will start dropping in price soon. The economy is going to make this Christmas horrible for retailers. If it's not cheap before Christmas - I bet they will by the after-Christmas fire-sales.

I agree with #7, black friday is bound to do wonders to prices

With a $100.00 off coupon, I'm in for 2. Other than that, when the price becomes realistic to own and buy movies for( player at most,$25.00 manufacturing cost), I'll see how the cost per movie plays out. Absolutely no justification for the cost of the player or media. I guess they're counting on the "WOW" factor. Don't think it's working.
#17   nicholjo - Posted 11:52 am PST 11/12/08 (99 Posts)
The only WOW factor for me is the still overpriced players

#20   eternalrecca - Posted 2:17 pm PST 11/12/08 (31 Posts)
