Does anybody really buy refurb laptops? I have to assume sales are on par with refurb condoms.

I bought a refurb laptop from dell last month. It's awesome. (No lie).

I've got a dell refurb laptop... and have 2 dell refurb desktops... never a problem.

BTW... I can't get coupon code to work... Sad

Some are better than others depending on who used/abused it. So it can be a gamble. You get a 100 day warranty to make sure everything works okay. I have a couple that I have had zero problems with in the last couple years.

Yes, #1, laptops are just like condoms, that makes perfect sense. I hear my mom buy refurb laptop, I guess that makes you a mistake.

I've bought a refurbed desktop and works great.

I can't get the coupon to work neither, says it's invalid.

It too have XPS 1330 refurb - no problems, ever. I bought XPS 1530 recently NEW and have had Dell replace HD and Fingerprint reader already. I have been of the mind to think that a Refurbed item almost has better success rate than a new device. You have a 2nd set of QA eyes on it to reinspect it. Seems you have better chance us a successful unit when re certified. The exception to this rule is when a device is returned and customers explanation of defect is elusive and not descriptive enough for QA team to reproduce the defect(faulty connector, fastened as shipping, but jostling it in/out of backpack or during travel causes connector to cause a failure.) in this case QA may think device is OK and send it back out. Either way Dell still 100% warranties the device as if it were new.

Code: Dell has 3 types of computers in Outlet store:
1. Certified Refurbished - had a defect and QA has hopefully fixed it
2. Scratch and Dent - OpenBox, kiosk demo, BestBuy, Customer Returns, store or warehouse opened a box, all contents are still in tact, but not factory sealed. may have a few fingerprints on items that were inspected while taken out of the box, but contents are certified to all be there.
3. Previously Ordered - Customer Canceled order, Customer opened box found computer to be too big, and returned it.

My point here is i am wondering if the Code not working is cause you when you are selecting your computers from the list of avail, it might have to be a true Refurbished items instead of the a open box or returned....there are icons on left side of list indicating which of the the 3 buckets it belongs in. You can filter to only display refurbs. Just a thought...

Thanks Phil,

I did in fact make sure that I was trying to purchase the refurb. No dice. Sad

ok folks, i sort of retract my previous Refurb thoughts for THIS item.

Sorry i didn't actually go to the link for this refurb sale. I assumed it was a Dell Site Outlet sale. IT IS NOT DELL.

this is for Dell's Financing dept. These are like repo'ed machines from folks going default or a .com .bomb company and they machines are avail for resale.

Their Web Controls they use to make a selection are NOT the same as the Dell outlet center. So this site will not display the 3 types of dells.

#10 - deseldork, this code will not work for sure on the Dell outlet linksbacon must be only for the Financing dept site ;-(

Sorry about that guys....

I was hoping this would work on a Refurbed monitor. Coupon code does not appear to work. It does not give you an error message but does not apply the discount either. Hey, a 30" for $629 + tax and shipping would have been a sweet deal!

As far as I can tell most of the computers on the repo/expired lease site are Pentium IV, Pentium D, or Celeron and the desktops are priced around $500 for something with average features. The real refurb site has some pretty nicely loaded C2D 2GB, 250GB PCs for around $360

Here is an example of the real refurb site:

I called and talked to Mike they have one sales person. He was able to give me more specs on the unit I wanted includeing telling me that the original warranty with the unit is still good so you may get a unit with a year left on the warranty and he stated you can extend it through the dell warranty group.

Thanks Phil, I thought this was a really good deal too, until I realized it's not their outlet.

Dell outlet is great when they issue coupons. Never had any problem with their machines and always save lots of $$$

Ahhhhh... yeah, I couldn't get to the link (proxy filter at work)... so I was just going to Dell Refurb directly.

CRAP! I was hoping to get a new box at a better than usual price. Sad

refurbished has come a long way. I remember way back when refurbished computers were junk. It would be something wrong with it. You will not find out until you've used every part of the system.

I was looking at some of the towers. None of them list details about the motherboard, so you have no idea if a new video card can be added.

All the ones that I viewed said "16MB" for the video memory, even if the processor was 3.6GHz.

I was hoping to find something for my girlfriend to play games on, but even the games she is interested in will not work on these systems.

Did anyone actually used this code? Both of them seem not working. Got Coupon Error Message. Thanks.
