That's not enough horsepower to run Vista as well as a new computer should, and the site won't let you choose XP instead.

Who cares for Vista anyway?
Just install XP after you buy it, Lenovo supplies all the XP drivers on their support site.

Just needs more RAM for Vista. It definitely has the horsepower for Vista. A Core 2 Duo is plenty powerful for running Vista and apps.

#1, I see an Vista Business downgrade to XP option for 79 bucks. Worth it, in my opinion if you want XP.
#2, newer laptops are particularly hard to install XP on, especially because the Intel SATA drivers need to be available during installation (so you need to mod your Windows XP disc). I haven't done the research to know if this would be easy to downgrade, but I'd gladly pay 79 bucks to have them do it for me.
#4, you can customize your build. select more ram, or better yet, upgrade it yourself afterwards and save $.

i'm with #5, its easier to go w/ preload. the only reason i dont is b/c i am freakish about what ibm tools i want installed (read: almost none) because i want the memory load to be as low as possible

memory is weak, hard disk is small, battery is short life.so, not a hot deal. Size is the only attractive side for businepss purpose.

if cpp can be combined with this "huge" discount could be a deal.

1GB ram and 80 GB hard drive? Unless you plan on upgrading those, get a netbook for half the price, Core 2 on Vista with those specs isn't going to be much faster than a atom processor on linux.
