Does anyone have any history with this model? I am not familiar with it. I should probably avoid the celeron processor?

Celeron is slow with Vista Basic. But this should be good for folks who only wants to browse the net, email, IM, word, and some not too graphic intensive games.

The problem is not being a celeron. Bet XP or better yet Linux would work wonders on it.

If you have a little know-how you can use anyone's Dell XP Pro restore cd to overwrite Vista without any license issues. Then it's just a matter of using the driver cd to wrap things up. Well worth a couple hours of your time.

does Vista still need 2GB of RAM to really run or is a Celeron with 1GB going to cut it?

I would think you are better off waiting for a deal on one with a dual core processor and a DVD burner. They are extremely common at just $50 - $100 more.
