Does anybody know if this works with XBox 360 or Direct TV HD DVR?

#1 Look in Amazon.com reviews. From the description "Requires no drivers, setup, or configuration", it looks like it should work.

I don't have experience with this bridge, but the Belkin small wireless router I had is a piece o' crap

Quite a few wifi routers can run in bridge mode, and it's not hard to find those for $25 or less AR. This is a little smaller than the typical wifi router out there but it also has only one small antenna so the range isnt' likely as good. Any router with firmware not supporting bridging but that can run DD-WRT will gain that feature too. IMO, only really useful feature is that being only a bridge you don't have to configure it, and yet that also means you're missing out on some security settings.

any links to dd-wrt-able wireless routers anyone? there is a deal for a netgear gigabit router, but apparently they have a high fail rate.

wep-only, but wpa with firmware update. after the recent news about wpa's faults i would stick to purchasing new gear that's wpa2 compatible.
