Label makers... Also known as a printer... I'm not a fan of these... just get a printer and buy labels.

Looking for one of these for home organization. This is the cheapest I've seen on a USB model. Thanks Ben.

This looks like a good deal for someone needing a USB label printer that spits out the larger mailing labels.
However, for the narrower file-folder sized labels, there are better, cheaper alternatives (albeit without the USB connectivity), a good example being the Brother PT-1880 that was on sale at Buy.com and Office Depot a month ago for $15.

Prefer the dymo over this brand. Better yet, the zebra eltron label printers are far more superior. Have printed over 5000 labels without a hitch.

At this price, it is far superior to the keypad-based printers (such as PT-1880):
a) doesn't eat batteries
b) WYWIWYG labels, with graphics, and support for mailing lists
c) doesn't waste almost 50% of your label before and after the printed label area.
d) Not limited to 3/4 inch labels. 1/4-inch has limited usefulness, but a 2-inch label is very useful.
Between batteries and label costs, if you do much printing, this label maker will almost immediately pay for itself at this price.

Yeah, #8's correct (especially the part about wasting tape before and after the printed area).
But for occasional use (particularly if your IT department at work are real assheads about loading 'non-approved' software apps), the keyboard-based PT-1880 (which can run off DC as well as batteries) is good enough at half the price.

These things are great! The only thing wrong is that you have to use their software to print. No printing labels directly from FedEx and the labels are no more than 2" wide. If you can live with those two limitations they are great.

Good price but not too practical for anything...

I just buy my postage through usps and paypal.. and I use regular sized adhesive paper (2 per sheet). Works fine and you don't have to worry about another printer and ink.
